Mr. Tushar Jani An entrepreneur par excellence, Tushar Jani is the much written about founder Chairman of BLUE DART EXPRESS LIMITED, the premier International and Domestic Courier Company, which was taken over by DHL Express (Singapore) Pte.Ltd in March, 2005. Presently he is the Chairman of BLUE DART AVIATION LIMITED, the first private air cargo carrier in India.

After finishing his Bachelor of Science degree with Honours from Mumbai University, Tushar (born 29th April 1953) joined the 80 year old family business of Clearing & Freight Forwarding (SCA Logistics Pvt. Ltd.) as a Management Trainee in 1975.

In 1979, Tushar started an Air Cargo operation for small parcel, then a relatively unknown business activity in India. Egged on by its success, Tushar set up BLUE DART EXPRESS in 1983 in partnership with two of his friends. With his able leadership and vision, the company became extremely successful almost overnight.

An innovative entrepreneur at heart, Tushar has envisioned, founded and mentored numerous companies. Through his companies, Ritu Freight Pvt. Ltd and Nijoy Freight Systems Pvt. Ltd., Tushar and his team of professionals undertake representation and operations of various shipping lines in ports and ICD locations across the country. Today, they represent five shipping lines, one of them being Maersk Line.

Tushar also co-founded the NVOCC business - SWIFT FREIGHT PVT. LTD. Swift Freight was the first of its kind to start business in United States with FMC registration and has offices across that country. Tushar continues to be a Director with Swift Freight and mentors the professional team for strategy and new developments.

Tushar was ahead of his time in foreseeing the growth of logistics business in India and has inspired his daughter, Bhairavi to set up Transmart India Limited, a Warehousing, Logistics & Supply Chain activities.

Tushar has always been instrumental in founding and spearheading industry organizations and has made substantial contributions to the development of the Indian Express Industry. He is the Founder Chairman of the Express Industry Council of India, which is an association of all companies in the business of Courier and Express Cargo. He was also responsible for the setting up of the Domestic Courier Common-user Terminals at the Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai Airports, and the International Courier Common-user Terminals at Mumbai and Delhi Airports, a first-time private-public partnership. His efforts have resulted in making the Express Industry Council of India the first private custodian of courier loads, with management control over operations.

Tushar Jani is currently the Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region Logistics Sub-Committee and was the formal President of The Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India (AMTOI).

Tushar is very actively involved in various social welfare projects – the Tuberculosis Research Centre at Bhavnagar, rehabilitation programs for the earthquake-affected people in Gujarat and upliftment of rural areas in Sihor Dist, Bhavnagar.
